planeLondon Gatwick, the international airport, has pledged to focus on reducing air traffic noise in a bid to be selected for a new runway instead of Heathrow.

How does it plan to do this? By installing double glazing in over 1000 homes in the surrounding area.

How Gatwick intends to use double glazing to reduce noise

Owned by Global Infrastructure Partners, Gatwick plans to minimise noise for properties in the surrounding area with:

  • Loft insulation
  • Window enhancements
  • Door enhancements

The airport intends to assign £3000 per house, with an overall budget of £3 million.

A spokesperson for the airport has commented that Gatwick’s proposals take “into account both the increased sensitivity people have towards noise levels, as well as the frequency of how many times they might be overflown.”
