glass-and-glazing-federationThe Glass and Glazing Federation (who represents companies who make, supply or fit glass and glazing products in the UK as well as internationally) has recently launched a new report entitled “Safety and Security Glazing – Good Practice Guide”. Here’s what they had to tell us about the report…

What does the glass and glazing publication cover?

The Good Practice Guide discusses the use of safety and security glass and glazing in buildings, incorporating:

  • Windows
  • Doors
  • Curtain walling
  • Elevator enclosures
  • Shower enclosures

It covers the performances of safety and security glazing “when subject to manual, ballistic and explosive attacks”.

Who is the Glass and Glazing Federation’s report useful for?

The “Safety and Security Glazing – Good Practice Guide” is aimed at a number of parties, including:

  • Architects
  • Building managers
  • Building planners
  • Specifiers
  • Surveyors

Who was instrumental in the creation of the guide?

Steve Rice, the Director of Glazing and Secretary of the GGF Glazing Executive, was crucial to the production of the publication. He liaised with many industry experts who currently sit on the GGF Safety and Security Technical Group. Of the guide, he comments:

“This publication plugs a huge gap in the current industry information on safety and security glazing. Companies in the industry have been waiting a long time for a comprehensive, authoritative publication that not only covers the subject in detail, but also supplies the technical datasheets for reference, to help companies manufacture and install security and safety glazing to prevent or resist accidents occurring.”

How can you obtain a copy of the report?

Every member company of the GGF was sent a printed copy of the guide. It’s also available for download on the “Members” area of the GGF’s website.
