With the holiday season upon us, chances are that you’ve probably started, or, (for the extra organised among us), even completed, decorating your home.

With so many ways to decorate, from outdoor wreaths, electric baubles and illuminated Christmas figures, to indoor trees and paper chains, the choices for yuletide décor really are endless.

Today, Hamilton Windows is exploring a few ideas for enhancing windows and doors in the style of the season. So, to celebrate Christmas and give good festive cheer to those who walk by your home or office, read on for Hamilton’s top tips.

Wreaths

Dating back to the 16th century, Christmas wreaths are thought to have been first used by the Lutherans in Germany to mark the advent season. Circular in shape and composed of evergreen and other decorations, Christmas wreaths today are typically placed on people’s front doors in the lead up to the festive holiday.

Hamilton Windows’ top tip: In order to spare damaging the façade of your door and ruining the look of it for the rest of the year, hang your wreath without using a nail. Purchase a hanger, which slips over your doorframe and has a readymade hook for your wreath.

Fairy Lights

These colourful and attractive electric lights evolved from the 18th century, when people lit candles on their Christmas trees. After electricity was harnessed, not only did Christmas lights replace candles on the tree, but they were also used in different locations around the home. Many people today love to decorate their house’s exterior with fairy lights, including of course, its windows and doors.

Hamilton Windows’ top tip: Hang your outdoor fairy lights strategically around the architectural features of your home, such as its windows, doors and eaves. This will give passers by a flavour of your house’s design at night, whilst also beautifully illuminating your property.

Snow!

Some meteorologists are predicting that it’s going to be a white Christmas this year, but if it’s not, never fear! You can recreate its appearance in your own home. Why not buy a spray-able, ‘Snow in a Can’ type product, so you can continue to ‘let it snow’ throughout the Christmas period.

Hamilton Windows’ top tip: Use artificial snow on the bottom corners of your home’s windows.  This will give a subtle frosty effect both indoors and outdoors. And you won’t need to worry about ruining your UPVC windows either; come the New Year, a premium product will simply wash away!

If you live in the Surrey or London area and would like to upgrade your windows or doors to match next year’s decorations, don’t hesitate to get in touch with the Hamilton Windows team today.
