How to Care for Your Surrey uPVC Windows

uPVC windows are renowned for their low maintenance. Unlike timber frames, painting and varnishing is thankfully a thing of the past. But of course, over time, dust and dirt can accumulate on even the easiest to clean surfaces. So today, Hamilton Windows is offering a few hints and tips for keeping your uPVC products as gleaming as the day you first had them installed!

Indoor windowpane cleaning

Invest in a good glass cleaner from your local supermarket. Generously spritz the expanse of glass, and then buff with a chamois leather cloth. Make sure to use a bit of extra elbow grease to minimise smear marks. You’ll already notice a difference, so you’re now ready for the…

Outdoor windowpane cleaning

A simple washing-up detergent can prove very effective in removing any stubborn dirt on your uPVC windowpanes. Combine a bowlful of warm water with some Fairy liquid (or a competitor brand), and apply to your windowpanes with a washing-up sponge. Once you’re happy that all the dirt’s been removed, remove the soap with some more warm water. Towel the windowpane dry, or, if you have your own window-cleaning wiper, remove all the excess liquid with this window cleaner’s favourite!

uPVC window frames

uPVC frames are a cinch to clean – that’s one of the reasons they’re such a popular choice with consumers. As with the windowpanes before, combine a good quality washing-up liquid with warm water, and, using a washing-up sponge, wipe away any built up dirt and dust. White vinegar has also been proven as an effective detergent, and is a natural and economical alternative to other cleaning products.

Polishing

If you want to go a step further, why not polish your windows, too? On our Twitter account – @HamiltonWindowz – one of our followers made the very useful suggestion of drying your windows with scrunched up newspaper. Although this method can get a little messy depending on the type of newspaper you use, it really is a fantastic way of getting the glass to shine!
