New windows can breath new life into a building

If you’re a facilities manager, you’ll be all too aware of the problems that build up over winter, and the need to start afresh when the new year comes. From carpet cleaning to windows, signage to pavements, there’s always something that needs to be cleaned and freshened up for spring.

As you’re carrying out your regular cleaning tasks, be sure to check the state of the windows. In a high-rise building, the constant battering from the weather can quickly take its toll. Rather than just washing the windows, is it time for brand new replacements?

New windows for high-rise buildings

We’re experts in glazing, from country estates to maisonette flats all the way up to commercial buildings. We’ve replaced windows in tiny bungalows, and tackled full replacement windows in communal blocks. High-rise blocks can fall into disrepair quickly, which can cause safety issues for the occupants and staff.

There are sometimes complications when replacing windows in flats, because they have to be exact ‘like for like’ replacements to avoid the need for planning permission. This can lead to some building managers putting the job off for longer than they should.

In fact, we can manufacture replacement windows for any size or shape of window, and we can mimic the appearance of the originals to obtain an extremely close match.

If there are any windows that cannot be matched for any reason, we’ll work with you to come up with a bespoke design for replacements. Even though this means putting plans in with your local council, our team can support you to ensure this all goes smoothly.

Window styles

When you replace windows in a block of flats, you need to consider the occupants and the way the windows will be used.

Box sash windows closely replicate the original timber sash windows, and we can add horns that make them look like the ornate originals. We can also add glazing bars that mimic the appearance of single glazed panes.

Some facilities managers order tilt and turn windows to make the occupants’ lives a bit easier, as they can generally turn the windows around to clean them rather than having to wait for the next communal clean. However, tilt and turn windows tend to be too modern for older buildings, and we recommend that you have a look at one in situ to get a feel for the way the building will look.

Book a building survey

It takes time to get all of the windows replaced in a block of flats. We need to come out and survey your building, then go away and prepare every window to your requirements. If you want new windows in 2016, we recommend that you start the process at the beginning of the year so we can replace your windows in the spring and summer months.
